I try to install hbase on Windows 11

The HBase binaries are under C:\software\hbase

When I run C:\>software\hbase\bin\start-hbase.cmd, i have a message error with JAVA

Warning: JAVA_HOME environment variable is not set. Defaulting to c:\apps\java

2023-03-28T10:39:06,272 WARN [main] util.Shell: Did not find winutils.exe: java.io.FileNotFoundException: java.io.FileNotFoundException: HADOOP_HOME and hadoop.home.dir are unset. -see https://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/WindowsProblems" even if I have Java binaries under C:\apps\java

What is wrong please?

Hi Jean,

Welcome to Kontext!

HBase is based on Hadoop. You will need winutils for Windows 11 to install it.

My laptop is Windows 10 hence cannot compile a native winutils for Windows 11.

Can you try if the Windows 10 winutils binary works on Windows 11?

If it doesn't work, you can try to build one by following my previous articles. Technically they can be applied to Windows 11 too.
